Jacques Charlier (1706-1800) was a pupil of François Boucher and can be considered as one of the best miniature painters of his generation working for Louis XV and Louis XVI. He specialized in mythological scenes, fêtes galantes, and artistic allegories. It is this last iconographic category that these six drawn vignettes are situated, possibly intended as designs for book illustrations. They represent the allegories of History, Comedy, Music, Truth, Satire, and the Muses. Provenance: Coll. Stamp of Albert Van Loock (L. 3751). We add: Drawing attributed to same artist.
