[EGAN, Pierce]

"Real Life in London; or the Rambles and Adventures of Bob Tallyho, Esq. and his cousin, the Hon. Tom Dashall, through the metropolis, exhibiting a living picture of fashionable characters, manners, and amusements in high and low life"
London
T. Johnson & Co.
s.d. (circa 1825)
€300 - €600

2 vols. in-8vo, x + 656, viii + 668 pp. Illustrated with two frontispieces, two engraved titles and 30 engraved plates in contemporary hand-colouring, including the two rare extra plates unrecorded in the table of plates: ""St. George's Day"" and ""Tom & Bob catching a Charley Napping"" (in the first volume). Some marginal stains and light foxing. Contemporary binding: original paper boards, paper labels on spines, untrimmed

The alternate scenes of high and low life, the contrasted characters, and revelations of misery side by side with prodigal waste and folly, attracted attention, while the vivacity of dialogue and description never flagged (DNB). A good copy of this popular work which went through many different issues. Ref. Tooley, 198
