Red chalk (sanguine), on laid paper with watermark (lion with fasces in shield, not in Bricquet), 280 x 195 mm, signed and dated at bottom ""D. in(venit) 19 Augustus 1689"" (some foxing, two holes of c. 1 cm near lower corners, old glue marks on verso). A seated peasant holding a flail, and a scythe at his feet. Drawn in the tradition of Bloemaert's peasant drawings, and executed in a comparable manner. The dating, however, does not correspond to Bloemaert's career. A second drawing on verso with a bent young man, probably based on a similar figure in a fresco by Carracci
