An interesting work intended to serve as a picture-book of the book trade in all its aspects through the centuries.Volume II is devoted to the 258 illustrations - from the 2nd to the 20th century - many of which are reproduced in colour (often tipped-in), with their accompanying captions on the facing pages. Volume I provides a general introduction and overview, drawing out themes and putting in context the individual illustrations, which are reproduced in this volume as small black-and-white illustrations in the text. Areas covered include publishing houses, the retail book trade, the antiquarian book trade, auction-sales, hawkers and itinerant bookselling, music, maps, prints, book fairs, bookbinding, stalls, libraries, authors and illustrators. Fine, as good as new, but without the slipcase
